Snowbird

We were all so excited when Mom decided to come for a visit last weekend! She arrived Saturday around lunchtime, and Michelle and her clan came up to enjoy the afternoon at our house visiting and being silly. We treated Mom to her annual Hobby Lobby fix, then had a simple dinner at home.
Sunday at church Ian Fair was a guest speaker at North Davis, which was a nice treat (we are starting a series on Revelation, and he wrote the book on which we are basing the series). Michelle (et al) met us at church, then we all headed to Mercado Juarez for a yummy lunch... and much giggling. Poor Andrew.
The rest of Sunday was pretty low-key. A trip to a very understocked Goodwill, some Wii playing, and an occasional walk around the cul de sac looking at the HGTV happenings.

Monday while we waited for Ally to be done with her musical practice in the morning, Mom and I went Squinkies shopping at Target (she had been Squinkies-deprived and we couldn't let that continue!). At lunchtime I took Melaina over to our neighbor Amy's house for Katie's 6th birthday party, and while there, the HGTV people were all over her yard, filming, setting pavestones, and just generally being busy. We had a front-row seat in Amy's front window; I briefly considered mooning them through the window as they filmed, but after much thought, I decided against it. (I can hear the cheers loud and clear.)

Once the party was over and Michelle arrived, we girls took off for Sam Moon, the huge bag/jewelry/accessories store. Avalie and I were able to control ourselves pretty well, so the damage was not too bad. That girl sure likes to shop though!

It was nearly dinnertime before I finally remembered that Livian and Avalie had gymnastics practice that evening. I normally would have let them skip because of having company, but they had a performance Saturday and really needed to be there. So dinner was a bit rushed. We enjoyed a last-minute meal at Double Dave's pizza buffet, and the girls made it to gymnastics in plenty of time. Everyone came along to watch a bit of their practice, but since the team was finalizing its performance, they did a lot of standing around getting instruction and didn't do much tumbling. That was disappointing for us, but I know the girls were so excited that everyone came to watch them anyway.

I was glad that Mom and Michelle got to see some of the craziness all this HGTV stuff is causing on our street. The week before had been a nightmare, but by the weekend things were much calmer. Monday the work started back up again, but it was nothing like the previous week, thankfully! Now things are wrapping up; today they are planting stuff in the yards and finalizing everything for the big reveal tomorrow. This afternoon HGTV is throwing a block party for us neighbors, which I'm assuming will be for filming our reactions to the makeovers, and then Friday they are throwing a bigger party for friends, family, and whoever else. Then I think it's over until it airs in late spring or summer!
