Pre-Christmas: Painting, Ballet, Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve-Eve-Eve (is that right?) we met Michelle and her crew at Creative Hands, a paint-your-own ceramics place. Melaina chose to paint a bird to look like Jewel from Rio (she is a girl obsessed), and by the time she was done, that poor little birdie had SO many layers of paint on it. Avalie chose to paint a mermaid, Livian painted two wolves, and Tuell painted a cat to look like Koda. (Much to our delight, Tuell looked mildly embarrassed when the worker asked him if he'd like sparkles on his kitty!) I worked on a big 'M' for Melaina, Andrew chose a snake, Ally painted Rapunzel, and Michelle painted a frog (what else?).

I got fed up with my messy craft room toward the end of the week and decided it needed a major overhaul. I spent the majority of two days cleaning out a bunch of stuff and giving it away on craigslist, then I rearranged all the furniture and deep cleaned everything. So much better! I think watching Hoarders is great inspiration to tackle those big yucky projects I've been putting off.

Friday afternoon we took the girls to the Bass Hall in downtown Fort Worth to see the Nutcracker. We were at the tip-top of the theater, but we were still able to see, thankfully. The girls seemed to enjoy the first half, but Melaina got bored toward the end and had trouble sitting still.
Avalie had been reminding me periodically all week that Santa needed some fresh cookies, so Saturday we spent some time in the kitchen baking and decorating sugar cookies. I'm sure poor Santa was surprised to see Swedish Fish and pretty much every other candy the girls had access to on his cookies!

We decided it would be fun to go to a candelight Christmas Eve service, so we attended the one at the local baptist church down the road. I really enjoyed it, and even the kids were paying attention and participating. It was a nice reminder of the real reason for Christmas and who we are celebrating!

After dinner we let the girls open presents from family, then spent the rest of the evening playing with their new things until bedtime. They always enjoy getting to open their 'sister' gifts from each other. Avalie's was a lizard Webkinz, Livian's was a giant chocolate bar, and Melaina's was a Beanie Boo stuffed unicorn and matching baby unicorn. I'm so happy that they get along so well and love doing nice things for each other. Sisters are the best!

Then it was off to bed, but not before setting out some delicious Swedish Fish cookies and milk!
